Greenville native shares overall health training with Butler and Lowndes County residents

Alabama Extension Supplemental Nutrition Help Program Instruction (SNAP-Ed) Agent Terronda Fields serves Butler and Lowndes counties, assisting inhabitants of all ages achieve details and sensible strategies for residing their healthiest lives.
Fields joined the Butler County Extension Workplace as an administrative assistant in 2019 and transitioned to SNAP-Ed agent in Nov. 2022.
She attained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in enterprise administration at Faulkner University, graduating in 2013. The Greenville native, who enjoys doing the job with young children, enjoys interacting with and instructing children to develop healthier lifestyles.
“I usually wanted to be a trainer, but I was kind of terrified to go straight into training,” Fields claimed. “I wished to choose finance courses and train, but I also appreciated children. This is a superior way for me to be all around kids and also be able to instruct them. Extension has taught me a large amount — how to make improvements in the neighborhood and assistance men and women get the info they require.”
Lowndes County Extension Coordinator Tana Shealey reported Fields, as a SNAP-Ed educator, assists neighborhood users understand steps towards more healthy life.
“Terronda goes into communities and talks with inhabitants about the SNAP-Ed software and the ideal way to expend SNAP dollars to get healthy food for their people on a spending budget,” Shealey explained. “She also talks with [people] about the importance of consuming h2o and working out.”
In addition to connecting as a result of communities, Fields associates with schools to give diet and exercise teaching.
“She goes into educational facilities to converse with young people today about the forms of foodstuff that they should try to eat and especially about consuming much more water than smooth drinks,” Shealey explained. “They study about training far too. She teaches them all types of programs, like Overall body Quest, which can help them study to appreciate how every person is various but can strive to be the healthiest we can be by having nutritious food and training each working day.”
At Greenville Elementary, Fields teaches third graders about generating wholesome alternatives via the Body Quest method. Fields reported she enjoys serving to young ones learn to consume fruits and vegetables, try out new food items, and drink a lot more drinking water. She also relishes the enjoyment children categorical for mastering about health and fitness and diet.
“My favourite part so considerably is observing the little ones be thrilled,” Fields stated. “When I walk in the doorway, you can just see they are psyched. They brighten my working day when I go in. They are excited to request issues and ready to learn. They tell me about new items and foodstuff they’ve tried.”
Fields explained that teaching the small children aids reach their family members, building a more important group effects toward healthier results.
“I’ve discovered young children influence their moms and dads,” Fields said. “They can say, ‘Mom, can I try this?’ At Greenville Elementary, the young children went property, talked to their mother and father, and requested to attempt new points. As the mother of 4 small children — Cameron, Journi, Janyah, and Jordyn — Fields also connects with local community young children and coaches junior cheerleading with Greenville Parks and Recreation.
“I appreciate viewing the women progress and learning the cheers, just being satisfied to be out there cheering for the team,” Fields claimed. “When they see me at faculty, they arrive and hug me. They appreciate to see me much too.”
